Alexander McQueen Shift Dress, 2009 

A runway version of this dress was featured in the book "Alexander McQueen: Genius of a Generation" (2010) with this caption, "This sexy, sophisticated body-conscious shirt, with its trompe l-oeil effect and sharply-padded shoulder, was a shape ahead of its time. Though this sort of exaggerated tailoring has always been a part of McQueen's modus operandi, this version is slightly more pared down and sets the stage for the trend explosion of shoulder-padded shifts the following season."

Strapless dress of black and white woven horizontal striped silk and cotton. The dress is cut with a scoop neckline, fitted body, black silk lining, and center back zipper. The placement of the color change mimics an hourglass silhouette of the wearer.
